Sorry, I had not my contributor uploading in a long time.
The blue paint was in bad shape. Good looker from about thirty feet.
The Green is Boxwood Green. We painted it ourselves.

OK, you got me. That boxwood green is sweet! I havent seen anyone go with the Drk Hateras Green Metallic, though. I still have a few patches left on mine and its tempting (and probable) to go that route. But I would love to see one that color so I have a better idea on how it will turn out. Fantastic job on the DIY paintjob. What brand (details)? I have talked to a few paint-shops and $2K is about the best I have found (exterior panels only--inside will be line-x-ed). Wondering how difficult it might be. Thanks and congrats; it looks great!

Good to see the boxwood green. That's the original color on my 71 and I plan on giving it a fresh coat or two eventually. Good job!

Thanks.
The boxwood is not a metallic. We used all PPG. Sealer, Primer, Base and Clear. We had a few problems with the weather changing causing problems with the activator. It was also a learning experience.
The main reason to paint it ourselves was because it is a 4x4 and it does occasionally see the trail and I could not justify paying a professional all that money for something that will get scratches.
I am real pleased with my color choice. I am using all the Ranger package trim. It will be green and black. Black flares, blacked out grill and the black can-back top. I am going with a tan interior, with black durabak, white dash and white metal door panels.
Attached is a pic of the grill ready to be mounted as soon as I get the A/C installed. I am getting a Koenig PTO setup this weekend so the Warn is coming off. (Hopefully I can get the PTO all done)
I also have found a set of slotted Shelby Mags that will carry BFG AT 33's.

Is it PPG Omni, Deltra, Deltron 2000, Concept 2000K, Global or what? Just curious. I have no paint experience and am curious about what you as a first timer used and your experiences with it...be long winded, if you like. It looks really nice. Keep the pics coming.

All we used was two stage except base coat.
Epoxy Primer Sealer - DP 74
Sandable Primer - K 36
Base - Omni AU MBC
Clear - Delta CB 100 Blending Clear

My dad did all the painting. The PPG store here said for the Boxwood green, the only available paint was the Omni. We had some problems with it. It would start flaking occassionaly. He would not want to use that again he said.
Other than that, the process was pretty smooth. Sanding down the old paint was not much fun. The truck had been repainted over the original job at some point, and that paint had cracked (like an egg shell). Not flaking but cracked. So we sanded it all off. Next comes the epoxy primer, body filler where needed and sanding the filler. Then the Sandable primer. Mopre sanding, filler untill all smooth and flat. Very tedious for us rookies, but not impossible. Then comes base. This would not have been a bad stage except the problems we had. Then comes clear coat. After it dries, you wet sand then polish with polish then eventually it will be smooth and ready to go.

My dad restores old chevy's and has all the paint equipment for painting equipment. We did not redo the hardtop so the only difficult part to paint was the hood. Flat is tough to get smooth and straight.

We also stripped all the anodizing off the aluminum trim pieces and repolished with the buffing wheel.

Nice color choice. I also painted my Boxwoood green in the fall, except it's a half shade darker because in the PPG Deltron line it's called gray green if I remember correctly (original color on the old Frazier's). The tan interior should look good. I was thinking of going with red seats to get that pimento look. HAHA Great work!
