So I'm an idiot !

Purchased some grill trim from WH, trying to install it I managed to screw up my side pieces . They didn't really follow the couture of the tight radius corners.

Thanks to Paul "DirtDonk" at WH, he was nice enough to help me out with another set.

Sooo before I go and screw up a second set.
Does anybody have any tips, tricks installing grill trim ? Where you drilled your holes. My grill didn't have the trim to begin with so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dale

Dale,

I put mine on several years ago without the factory holes. Honestly, I don't remember all the details....other than just being patient and going slow.

I do remember that I put it all together nice and snug and taped the trim together and then fit it.

From there, I just marked my lines on the grill and drilled. Rest was pretty simple.

Don't try to put it on piece by piece.

Good luck.

Dale

Dale ,

Thank you for your reply , I did notice in your pics that there is a little gap on the out side edge of the trim at the corners. What I need to do is get away from show rig ,,, and think more along the lines of show me a rig that doesn't have it.

By the way I have always admired your rig from the 1st pics I've seen of it ,
very nice looking rig,,, job well done.

Thanks again for the help .

You're welcome. I don't think there'll be any way around a slight gap in the corners...at least with the aftermarket stuff.

Once again, just fit the pieces together and finagle them until the fit is as good as you can get it.

I have original stuff on an original not too banged up grill and it has gaps. I think it was not very well made when new and no one cared. I spend a lot of time trying to make it look right and just ended up make it even.

I put the trim together and taped it also. then I cetnered it left to right and top to bottom. Marked the grill for the top and bottom of the trim in the center and took the trim off. I drilled that hole and re-installed the trim with one fastener. Then I cetnered it again (the trim can still move because the fastener slides in the track) and marked the top and bottom where the bottom cetner hole was. Remove, drill, re-install, re-center. Doing it this way you can make slight adjustments to keep it straight and centered. If you did not buy the OEM hardware yet I used nylon 1/4-20 bolts and nuts from Lowes for $5. I simply ground the heads down until they were low enough to fit in the track. They never rust!

Thanks for the info on the original trim . I was curious how the fit was back in the day. If it had gaps then so shall mine. I'll post some pics this weekend on my install.

Thanks again

Don't feel bad, I banged up my nice shiny grill trim the last time I re-installed it. Take your time and have more patience than I do. :)
