My parking brake doesn't ratchet and was wondering if a hand pull off a mustang or cougar would work.

Anybody ever changed one and was wondering what application would fit

If you're not opposed to going non ford, the older Toyota fj40 had a really nice dash mounted hand break. Cable scenario different as that rig has a drum on the transfer case output.

I know a guy with a Blazer that we put two Datsun B 210 hand brakes in his 4x4..
He has an open rear differential. When one tire spins he just pulls the hand break hooked to that wheel and it starts sending power to the other side. It also helps him make wicked sharp turns on the trail.
He disengages his rear axle with his modified 205 twin stick, pulls the appropriate hand brake and pirouettes around that tire as a pivot point, like a tractor with cutting brakes. It's sick and we did it almost twenty years ago. It really freaked people out since twin sticking a TC (even a 205) was pretty uncommon back then. Good times.

I'm using a hand brake from a 63 ford pick up, mounted it right of the steering column. Underneath at the cross bar I redrilled the connection point 1" closer to the pivot for better leverage and because the hand brake has 3-5" of travel.
This hand brake use stock type cabling, I used duffs universal e-brake cable, at the firewall a 3/4" hole for the cable and two 1/4" holes for the bolts and were it bolts to the bottom of the dash I had to lengthen that bracket 1-2". It has a very stock look. I using this with caddy rear disc and there seems to have the pull to work, I'm sure drums would be a easier.

I remember the B 210 car.

My friend turned 16 in Jan 1976 and his Dad bought him a new blue Datsun B 210 hatchback. I recall the big hand brake between the 2 front bucket seats.
Seemed weird at the time with all the bigger cars he wouldn't buy an American
car. Was actually a great little car, great on gas,

My dad installed one from an early Fox Mustang in mine back in the mid '80s. Works great (used with stock rear drums and several rear disc setups). He built a little subframe for it on the underside of the body that holds the cables. He originally stitched up a vinyl boot for it and after that wore out, I got one from a 5 Series BMW that fit pretty well.
