I installed Chevy discs / stock drums and hydroboost 5-7 years ago and the braking was phenomenal. The first master cylinder from a '80 Camaro started leaking so I bought a new one a few years ago. The brakes never had the same high pedal, immediate stopping power they once did. Recently I had the pedal go to the floor under high pressure but otherwise they are working ok not great. I popped off the lid and the drum side is dry and I have fluid leaking down the booster.
1) I plan to replace the m/c with another new '80 Camaro unit ( 1 1/8" bore) unless someone has a recommendation. I wonder if the last one was bad from the start.
2) I think my hydroboost may be leaking from either the low pressure return (hydraulic hose but with TWO clamps) it always has a drip or two. The brass fitting with o-ring is finicky and fragile but I did put new o-ring on last time I was in there. Any suggestions on that
2a) Can I apply the brakes w/the engine running and no m/c in place to see if the hydroboost is leaking either out the return or internally toward the back of the m/c? It was wet in this area and I assume it was brake fluid but maybe not
Thanks for any tips!
