In dash speaker replacement

I am looking to replace my indash speaker, (one of the POs repainted the dash, and sprayed through the grill cover) with a new speaker. The only direct replacement speaker I have found is in the LMC Truck catalogue, item #48-8566 "dual voice coil speaker". I have an original AM radio, and plan to keep it that way.

Question is, anyone ever buy one of these, and how does it perform? If someone has seen another option, one that will direct replace, where did you see it?

Thanks guys....

A 5X7 will line up with the stock mounting holes. May take a little "wallering out" of the mounting tabs (on the speaker) depending on the brand. Should you need it, all that custom fabrication will be hidden behind the grill.

These came in early 90's T-birds if you want to go ultra cheap via the bone yard.

i used one of the 5" stock replacement speaker from wal-mart or radio shack i believe and it fit right in. also take a piece of screen for a porch and paint black to put in front. works, looks and sounds good. Darren

It would be nice if they made a single speaker that fits in the stock dash location that you could use to hook both left and right channels of a stereo to also for those of use that no longer have the original AM radio and don't have room up front for external speakers.

I second that.

That is what the "Dual Voice Coil" speaker LMC sells is designed for.

Does anyone have one of these installed? If so how does it sound? I can't find it on the LMC web site, do you have a link?

Thanks

Hmmm interesting. Seabiscut was talking to me about there only really needing to be one speaker in a bronco. Wonder if we could get him to join us in this thread. Very knowledible.

Oh I don't know anything, just have opinions like everyone else. To each his own is what our rides are all about. The way I see it there's not alot of placement options in an EB. I don't like 'em in the door or on the kick panel - too low. Just me I guess. I don't like 'em in the back either. Too far away - I'd like to keep the volume down. Then there's stereo seperation. What you gonna do? Set it for yourself and give the passenger too much right channel? I suppose with enough $ you could do anything. I just want to keep it simple, use quality stuff and a dual coil seems to fit the bill. I would however like it more towards the middle. Maybe in a center console or in that custom redesigned dash I fantasize about. I'm too old for BOOM ba BOOM.
