not to hijack

but i need more detailed internal diagrams if anybody's got em'.

both doors: when i lock em, they won't unlock (i.e. lock won't even pull all the way up, like its caught on something), unless i go inside and push a lever that undoes the latch. the release of the latch seems to release something blocking the lock mechanism. all else functions properly. fyi, if doors are open (i.e. latch not closed), i still seem to have to close latches and then pop open to release locks. anyone dealt with this

Sounds like you need to clean and regrease the latch mechanism. The original factory grease gets hard and cakes up after all these years. Add to that whatever dirt has accumulated and that mechanism can't do it's job anymore. Be sure to get in all the nooks and crannies when cleaning and regreasing - some spots are tight. I submerged mine overnight in a coffee can of gas which worked quite well to loosen stuff then used a toothbrush and dental floss with more gas and they came out sparkly clean. Put grease everywhere metal rides on metal and they'll work like new.

seabiscuit, i assume you mean

pull all of it out to deal with it. other than disconnecting the rods, does that whole mess come out if i just undo the 3 bolts holding the latch mechanism to the door?
