Inside of Rear Tailgate?

Anybody have an inside view of a stock tailgate? I have an aluminum diamond plate cover that covers the entire inside of the tailgate and extends over the top edge. I just put on a new lift gate seal and that diamond plate is not letting it close and seal properly. I'm looking to ditch the diamond plate cover for a stock inner panel but I can't seem to find one or a picture of what one looks like. By the way it's a '73 if that matters. Watch the parts for sale thread, there may be a aluminum inner tailgate panel for sale soon.

Pics would help but is it just the seal preventing closing, how much? (1/4", 1/2" etc)

PS-make me a deal on that diamond plate cover lol

It's not so much the seal, it's due to the texture of the diamond plate catching the leading edge of the seal when I close the lift gate. I guess I could take a grinder and just take off the "diamonds" that are causing the problems. I'll post pictures when I get a chance.

Do these help at all? Stock tailgate, and a new liftgate rubber weatherstrip piece from one of the vendors.

Pull the diamond plate cover and see if its closes/clears.
If you want to keep the cover on there, you could lightly "groove" the seal so that it snugly closes but still seals.
