Inside tailgate tire carrier install ?

Any tips on mounting the 3 brackets to the inside of the tailgate? I was thinking predrill some pilot holes and use self tapping screws....

Only the latch goes on the tail gate. The other two go in the tail light housing. I held everything in place and marked the holes, then drilled, and finally move the inner plates into place so you can bolt it up. I would not trust self tapping screws into sheet metal to support the tire and carrier.

I think you are referring to the exterior swing out carrier. I’m installing the simple inside carrier to the interior of the tailgate.

There are actually 3 brackets for the inside of the Tailgate Mount.

The Center Bracket with the slotted hole (for the center of the tire hold-down bolt) also has a corresponding Bracket on the Inside of the Tailgate that it bolts too. There may be dimples on the tailgate for this Brackets holes.

The other two brackets to each side are Bumpers to hold the edge of the Tire off the inside of the Tailgate. There should be dimples on the inside of the tailgate for the holes to these side brackets too.

I think you are referring to the exterior swing out carrier. I’m installing the simple inside carrier to the interior of the tailgate.
