I had the opportunity to buy one in Sacramento a few years ago. It still had the military front seat and dash plaque. I didn't buy it because of the 170. I already had a 170 equipped Bronco, and like those quoted in the article think it's an anemic engine for such a heavy vehicle.
The guy who was selling it actually had two military Broncos. One he was building for himself, and I believe it was going to be turned into a standard cut and lifted Bronco. He didn't really care about the history of it. I'd like to know what happened to the one I drove and passed on.
I find it interesting in the article that it mentions power steering in the pre-delivery ones. Considering that PS was years off - even in the Stroppes, it makes me wonder if the statement is actually correct, and what did they use for the steering box if it was true.
