James Duff Suspension Good or Bad?

I'm looking to replace my suspension with new gear and was wondering if anyone has been using the James Duff suspesion kits and how happy they are with them?? How does it handle? Do the shocks last?

I'm looking for a suspension that travels well on the highway and not stiff, but can still handle its own on the trail.

Any suggestions would be great -- thanks

I have the basic lift and am very pleased with it. Some buddies of mine swear by the front springs. They get some huge flex out of them with longer shocks and a wristed arm.

I have the stage II long travel setup and I love it! Why some say they are stiff is beyond me I was in a rig with a WH setup last week and it is way stiffer than mine.

Well I haven't driven the setup yet, still in the middle of the full restoration. I can comment on the build quality of the components though. Everything is very stout and well put together. I have no problems recommending their equipment (from my unexperienced perspective).

my friend has duff stuff on his 66. My bc set up is far better off roadand doesn't launch you out of the seat on the road. Call chuck at bc and get better stuff.

I Have a 3.5" Ultimate and am very pleased. I too have a buddy with a WH lift and you need the 5 point set belts to stay in the rig and thats before you get to the off road trails. ???

Mine had an old skool 3" Duff lift and if was like I was driving a newer car. Took corners good and wasn't rough.

I have the 3.5" ultimate in mine and it has worked well for me. It does ride stiff. However, I've never been in one with a BC setup. One thing you might want to figure into the price is that the Duff kit does not include drop pitman arm, extended brake lines, and the cost of extending driveshafts. I know that these items are not always required, but on mine I needed them all. They are included in the BC kit plus you get the new driveshafts.

I don’t know how anyone could think a Duff’s suspension isn’t stiff, I tried there shocks by themselves last year one on each rear corner, man I thought I had gone dual rear shocks, I felt they totally defeated the purpose of having a set of National 10 or 11 leaf spring packs, they made my rear end feel like stock leafs with a Rancho lift kit.
I think there extended radius arms look very stout and some say that they get monster flex with them but I’ve heard others say that bend to give a better turning radius has no advantage once shocks are installed, that the tire will rub on the shocks at full lock, also I know a few people that have installed there front coils and been disappointed, they expected a better ride.
I might run there arms and B.C. Broncos coils & leafs and set the shock mounts up for duals but run single shocks all the way around on a daily driver and use dual shocks if I was planning on running the dunes or blazing a trail down a wash board road, as far as shocks my first choice would be Bill Stein’s<sp> second would be Rancho 9000’s.
Just my $.02, Francois.

tonto take some measurements before you buy the duffy parts. They don't always play well with others. Kinda like AOL for your bronco.

I guess what I should’ve said was if I was putting a suspension together that’s one possible way I would go.
I’m very pleased with what I have now, Coilovers and a 4 link in the front would be the next step in my E.B. evolution but I'd rather just leave what I have now alone and put the time and $$$ into building a buggy.
Later, Francois.

I have the duff lift but with national springs, and I like it fine, I also have their 70/30 shocks as well. IT IS NOT STIFF. I can say this because it is NOT STIFF. Firm yes... which is good, but stiff is a "Super Lift" ride...

BUT that's just MY 2 pennys!!!!! ;)

What do you mean when you say "Old Stuff"? How old. MY restoration has been taking longer than expected, so the lift kit has been sitting for quite some time. If I need to change something out I would like to know now.

Thanks.

Hey,
1st post.
When WH is mentioned, do you mean the pre-runner or the rock crawler coils?

And you are right about the OLD Duff springs being stiff. I have a set on mine right now and sometimes it feels like I need a kidney belt.
