Jet Performance Carbs worth the money?

Hi... I'm a carburetor novice, but I'm trying to learn and save money.

Please tell me what Jet Performance does to a Quadrajet to make it worth $450 and if it is worth it. I think I could pull a QJet off of a junk car and rebuild it for less than a hundred, so I am confused. I'm sure they do some machine polishing and such, but are there many special parts in there to up the cost? It seems that tuning one mostly involves determining the correct jetting (which is inexpensive), right? Please let me know if this has been addressed in a previous thread. Thanks, Greg.

Probably not worth the money, if your willing to do some work yourself.
but you'd need to find out exactly what it is they modify to make it better.
I know they seal the casting to fix the porosity common in those...but other than that?

I think they sleeve the throttle plate shaft bores also (if needed). Mine ran very rich, making cold start kind of a PIA. This was annoying since they claim they "tuned" it for my 400 engine. It did run better than any other carb I've owned (especially offroad) when warmed up. I'd try a local AZ or pep boys rebuild before I went with jet again though.
