Hey guys I'm thinking of taking my wife wheeling coming up for her b day, but as most family or friends we trust w our daughter are busy we have no babysitter at this moment.... How young is too young for a kid to wheel? I have a hard top, 8point cage, good rear seat with seatbelt a can anchor the baby seat very well.... My daughter is 17 mo old... Walks runs crashes etc lol.... But also the trails we plan to hit are fairly rough.... Any experiences or advices? Thanks

I have a couple friends here in AZ that wheeled with their kids when they were that age. Can still remember this 8 month old, or so, boy sound asleep in the back as his dad negotiated a very technical waterfall!

I think a good car seat and a little common sense on what obsticals you attempt, and everyone should have a good time.

I think you will be fine, my kids were probably about that age when they started wheeling.

We didn't do any serious wheeling in SD but hauled our kids around in car seats/back seat since they were born in our 76. We had no cage at all in that one.

A kid in a car seat fastened in, will probably be safer than you will be should something go wrong:) Extracted lots of people out of mangled vehicles, kids in car seats are usually way better off than the adults.

Steve,
Right you are. Cameron has been wheeling with the AZ club since 8-10 months old. Harder the trail, he would fall asleep. Only trouble was when we stopped too long to scout the obstacles.

I used to strap the car seat in with a good ratchet tie down. I would make the car seat and my back seat one. Then momma would ride next to him and steady his head if he fell asleep and the ride got bouncy.

Now my kids are 4 & 6 and we wheel all the time. It is nice because they can climb around on the rocks while we are scouting the next obstacle, and if I do something really crazy, I will be the only on in the bronco.

Like someone said, the family that wheels together, argues together or something like that.

If you're comfortable w/your wheeling skills, and you have the right protection, you should be good to go..

It'll be a Blast for sure...

My daughter was about 6 months old when we took her to the dunes for the first time. She slept most of the time and seemed to enjoy the ride, great family time!!

When I first bought the bronco my son Cody was 6, daughter Jordan 8. Went wheeling the first weekend I bought it and have been going wheeling and fishing in the rockies every chance we get ever since. Jordan is now 20 and Cody 18, and I got each one of them a jeep and beefed them up, now we all go wheeling together. It's Fawesome!

I take my son wheeling and he is 15 months old, he loves it. We often find him sleeping about half way through a ride. Something about the sweet noise of that V8 and the smoth handling of a bronco puts him right to sleep. We run mostlly high speed desert stuff so I tend to take it really easy when the kids are in.

The good thing about taking her with you at only 17 mo. is it gives you plenty of time to build you another ride for when she's 11 or so and kicks you out of the drivers seat..(speaking from experience but I've only had the truck 6 months...:-[)
