I've been shopping around for a disk brake converison for some time --- I've found the following set-up for $475. In your travels does this sound like a good deal? Or should I keep shopping? :-

2 new ford hub and rotors with bearing races.
2 new brake hoses. 2 new grease seals.
2 rebuilt calipers with pads.
2 new spindles with bearings and seals.
2 used backing plates

Sounds pretty good to me. Doing a junkyard conversion usually runs about $250-300. All the stuff you said is pretty new, so $450 doesn't sound to bad.

Best is relative. Depends on what you think "Best" is. Many of us have done the Chevy disc brake conversion and others here don't care for that conversion. I personally think it is great and have no problems with it. Others like the all ford setup.

What setup are you talking about here? Ford or Chevy? Either way, 450 doesn't sound too bad for what you are getting. It will definitely be worth the time, trouble and money to do the conversion. Good luck

I assume the backing plate, calipers and spindles are Chevy 1/2 ton right? Remember that the Ford D44"s that were originally drum brakes have six studs holding the spindle and backing plate on while the Ford disk setup uses five.

I did the F150 because that was the parts I could get my hands on, easily. I probably got $200 in the setup.

If you are willing to pay $475 for brakes alone why not just buy a whole disc brake front end ? I have seen quite a few sell for that price and then you would be able to use yours for parts ( axles, posi ?, etc. ) or sell it to someone who doesn't care about the discs.
