Just curious, I know the standard “66 not available” answer, but are their SOME 66 reports available, SOME 67 reports NOT available, or was it just that the 66 Bronco files were the only ones (relevant to this topic) destroyed?

Whenever I google ‘Fire’ and ‘Ford’ ya know what comes up? Yep, Pinto ;D

From what I've gathered the fire story is a myth. There was a fire at some point but it did not cause the lack of records. Ford simply didn't keep the '66 files, and apparently didn't keep any before the '67 model year.

As far as I know, no '66s are available and I have never heard of a '67 record not available unless its some unordinary occurrence.

There was a fire that destroyed the Ford Rotunda (a visitor center/tourist attraction) in Nov 1962 but the records kept there were protected by a CO2 fire extinguisher system and not destroyed.
I would expect that Ford protected any records they wanted to keep with a system like that, since it was proven to work.

The story goes that in the '80s, Ford decided to eliminate computer stored records and merely started deleting from the system. This was to make more storage room for future vehicle info and the utility vehicles including broncos were not considered valuable. At some point thereafter, deleting ceased and '67 and up records were kept. Not sure why the deletion process stopped other than someone thought the info needed to be kept or storing records got better as the computer age grew.

Interesting....the Mustang records are gone too, so either they felt they were also of little value OR they sold so damn many of them they thought it would be an easy way to clear up lots of computer space. I think back then one text file would fill up a floppy disk ;D

I have an 8/1/66 Marti, so that's pretty early in 1967 production!
