Our 4th anniversary was this past week, so we had a mini-vacation and went out to my parents farm for a few days of together time. We had fun, and she said that she wanted to learn to weld. After a couple of hours of practice, she started cranking out some pretty decent welds.
I changed my bumper design mid-stream, and went with this design. It does take away a little bit of departure angle, but it is higher clearance, and protects the corners pretty well. Time on the trail will determine if my big idea is a flop or a winner. I considered adding a receiver, but I don't want anything hanging down. We'll see if I end up needing it or not. I figure for recovery, I can just wrap a strap around the center section, and pull it through itself. It's 1/4" wall 2x4 mild steel tubing. It welded up nice and solid, if I somehow manage to pull it apart, I'm in a lot more trouble than just a bumper being damged. ;D
Pics of her welding, and the bumper she helped me build for my rig.
