No, I didn't say "my mom is a cougar", you freaks! LOL;D
Anyways, she's thinking about getting a new car and she's got a 91 cougar with grocery miles on it, 5.0 HO, 120,XXX miles on it, rebuilt Auto tranny. She mentioned that she'd give me the car if I wanted it for the Engine/tranny to swap into the EB.
What do you all think? Plug and play or what? Should I do it? Freshen up the engine a bit?
Thanks for any/all input.

It's a good choice. I got the same thing only out of a t-bird for my build. I decided to go with the explorer serpentine so I ended up not using much of it but the block, but the cougar/tbird setups work well from what I hear. Not sure about the tranny.

I'd go for it. There should still be plenty of miles left on it. The tranny may be an aod or aode which you can get an adaptor for. Of coarse if you want to keep that 4 speed the you can sell the auto tranny.

I don't think the 5.0 in those cars was an "HO" but the more tame version instead. Horsepower somewhere around 160-170 IIRC.

The T-Bird had the same engine (the cars were mechanically identical), and they didn't offer the HO version because the performance model had a supercharged V6.

Oh really? I'm pretty sure the intake says "HO", but it doesn't matter, I'll take it. Will the front accesories fit in the engine compartment of the EB ?

91 cougar should be a speed density HO.
You'll be short on clearence but you can move the radiator forward to touching the core support and it will fit with BC's fan and a spacer.
Now where's the pics of this cougar?;D

91-93 cougar/thunderbirds are mass air 5.0L HO. I have a t-bird engine and love it!

The 91-93 thunderbird/ cougar was also HO/ mass air as Nobody stated above. Aside from the mustang, this is the only other HO/ mass air 5.0 that I am aware of.

The same basic engine as the 89-93 mass air mustang with a few exceptions--t-birds/ cougars used hypereutectic pistons (93 mustangs also used these) and the intakes were also different than that of the mustangs--they have a slight curve to them where the TB mounts--like the sn95 mustangs. They are also the shortest of all 5.0 upper intakes. Ford rated these with slightly less HP than the mustangs but still a HO motor. In all reality, they were probably almost even in HP compared to the mustang.

Good choice if you ask me--especially since it's complete and running. Probably not as much tech support as the mustang though--as far as wiring/ pinouts and computer upgrades--these differ from the mustang.

Okay, now I remember. The T-Bird / Cougar 5.0 was rated at 200 horsepower ("Medium Output"?), so as to be less than the SC's 210 and the Lincoln LSC's 225.

At least that was the "official" number. I seem to also remember that the torque was way up there very close to the HO, and that's what you really want anyway. ;D
