so i am thinking about getting this mig welder to do some sheet metal and dash modification. it is at this link

http://denver.craigslist.org/tls/448404657.html

and this is the page for the actual welder

http://www.mylincolnelectric.com/Catalog/equipmentdatasheet.aspx?p=7114

let me know if i should buy this. i am new to welding so i will be learning. will it be good enough for sheet metal and my dash? the guy says it would be great for sheet metal. he is gonna show it to me wed and give me a demo of how it works. so i need advice before then

also could it be used for a little bit heavier stuff like my roll cage?

Should be ok I have a similar one I believe the next model up. While it might be a bit on the small side it might do a cage. But should still work. It should be great for sheet metal. If it comes with a cylinder and the price is right I'd go for it. But usually a bigger welder would be better.

%) %) %) Save your money and get a bigger one or you will be the one selling it. Just not worth getting you need a 220V and you want it to use gas argon/C02 75/25 it makes a nice weld with .030 or .035 wire good luck.:D :D :D Bill %) ;D

I agree 220. That one can use shielded gas also but I went from a 115 that I ruined to a 220 that I love and doubt that I will ever break. Hobart 187 is what I use.

another thing that is gonna effect my decision is buying this is that we dont have any heavy duty 220 outlets and i cant afford to have one put in our house. this one runs off of house outlets if anyone else knows of more powerful welders that do the same let me know. keep the opinions coming.

remember this is only for sheet metal work

For just sheet metal, it should be fine. Even flux core and no gas works decently on sheet metal.

I think most of the 220 advice speaks to the addiction...you always want more. Today you are just doing sheet metal, but in 2 months, it would really be handy to weld a bracket...or man I wish I could just weld this to that.

Never heard anyone wish they had a smaller welder.

If you got the coin then buy it. I wouldn't recommend welding a cage with it though. Just my $.02

don't waste your time with a low amp flux core machine. save your money and get a machine up the food chain line with more amps, duty cycle and gas. you'll be much better off with the results. doing sheet meal work with a flux core machine is nasty.

I bought a 140 hobart several months ago and have not pulled out my stick miller leads since. I have not even run it on high yet. I have only been doing sheet metal-floors, fender repair and such. With that said if I didn't have a ac/dc miller, I would have bought a much larger machine to do bumpers, cage and other fab work not related to a bronco. It should be great for 99% of bronco work, but I don't think I would use it for my cage. You can tack it together and carry it some where to be welded correctly. If you are just learning, a cage is not a place to learn.

when i said cage work i didnt mean i prolly would ever actually do anything to the cage haha i just was meaning little heavier things than sheet metal

bottom line, should i buy this baby for the work i want to do on sheet metal/kick panel and dash work? chances are i will do the repairs i need and then sell it or just keep it to have around

i have to decide tomorrow so keep it coming. just forget any need for heavier welding and focus on this machine for sheet metal
