I have a d20 j type transfer case. I have no 2 hi at all, and 4 hi and low work great. I am getting ready to install my twin stick so I will be in there to check it out. Do you all have any sugestions on what to look for?
Thanks for your advice

If your J-shifter is in bad shape putting in the twin stick may cure your problem. Sometimes if the J-shifter bushing is too messed up it won't let you get out of the 4WD shift rail.

since you have 4hi that means your 1:1 (high range) gears used
for 2hi rear output are working fine. and since you can shift
between 4hi and 4lo that means the shift rail for the rear output
is working fine (and also the shift rail for the front output).
sounds like just a shifter problem since you're already exercising
both the front and rear shift rails through the full range of motion
when you shift between 4lo and 4hi.

my guess is once you install the twin stick all will be working fine.

Be sure you have it in the correct shift location. I have 2 Broncos that I alway think I am in 2H but I am not really. There is a spot on the T-case where I think I am in 2H, but I am really not. Do this.....Lock your hubs in then shift where the 2H is? If it goes..then you are in the secret front wheel drive spot that all the j-shifter seem to have. If so. you are probably just missing the real 2H spot. I have to bring mine all the way down and over and up . It doesn't really feel like I go up far at all to the right to get it in 2H, but that is the 2H on my J-pattern. Give it a try, and don't forget to unlock your hubs from before. Let us know if that works.

Skiddy,

Also..when you think you are in 2H. Try shifting into gear and get someone to see if your front drive shaft is turning when your cluth is out. If so..you are are again in the 2H front wheel drive location. Let me know if that works. Seems like all J -patterns have that weird location that is right and all the way up beside /to the right of 4L. Hopefully you were just in that location. if you go down all the way and over to the right and up just a little. That should put you in the normal 2H position and not in the 2H front wheel drive mystery location.

Good Luck,

Ahh I see now. I have been running around the yard for a little while just in 4lo, without the rear drive line in (waiting on shop to lengthen it).
Thanks
