OEM exhuast manifolds on 97 Explorer motor

my buddy hit an absolute home run

he bought a 97 Explorer motor from Holley Performance through ebay for 500 bucks

they say it came out of a local junkyard and they were planning to do some testing with it to develop some EFI stuff............but they never got around to it.

the motor looks like it hasn't ever been run (other than testing at Ford ?)

bedtime story aside, this motor has the fabricated steel exhaust manifolds that look like headers with heat shields on them

We are wondering if any one has run these in a Bronco and if there were any issues ?

They work like a champ. I have those exact ones on my truck and all I had to do was get the exhaust shop to match it up. Whole lot cheaper than $600 headers for the P heads.

so no issues with keeping the motor cool ?

it's just that they look like they would be hotter than other types of manifolds

I was just about to throw my set out when I saw this. I thought they where very restrictive and not worth keeping. Tell me more. Are there any clearance issues with them or any mods needed to keep them.

Heck, I'd run em'. I have them on my racer. I'm not sure about the hocus-pocus of air flow, but they are easy to bolt/unbolt, have plenty of room for the plug wires, and you already have them. If you have a ton of cash to burn, replace them. Otherwise, my vote is to keep em. I'm running a C-4 and they fit perfect! No problems with engine temps. They aren't any different than a header, as far as temps should be concerned.
