OEM Rear Rubber Floor Mat or Not?

Hi, I eventually plan on running carpet in my 69 and my rubber floor mat is trashed and long gone. What's the thought on running carpet without this mat? Can the insulation be doubled up to compensate or would it turn out a lot nicer if I could locate a mat? Thanks

Mat would be best. Years ago I had a '74 without the mat that had a new carpet kit in it. Not only could you see the ribs through the carpeting, but crawling back there you could feel every single one of the ribs. Sleeping back there would require a fairly thick pad or sleeping bag on top of the carpet. Extra insulation would certainly help, but filling in the ribs evenly is going to achieve the best results.

I've been trying to to think of a way to cut an exact piece of "BedRug" for mine. I use bedrug on my F150 and LOVE IT!!!!

I cut down a rubber bed mat my brother in-law gave me from his F-150. Sleeping back there?? Is that Tattoo from Fantasy Island posting?

Well, I can see myself getting drunk enough to hang my feet out but I guess at that point, I not going to know whether the mat is there or not. Oh wait, I'm too old for that now. Well that's what I needed to know. Looks like I'll go mat hunting. Thanks for the help.

Might want to put a wanted ad on the parts "wanted" section. I bought two on here for my Broncos, it does a nice job on flattening the floor out.

My Ranger originally had a fiberboard mat. I made a rubber one to get some extra sound deadening.

I just went to Lowes, found some rubber mats, cut some strips and layered them to fill the valleys, and then laid a mat on top and put in the carpet.
