Original Early Bronco Front Bucket Seats

My search for Original 1966 Front bucket seats has been difficult.

Are the Original 66 and 67 Bucket seats the same? (Other than Silver vs Parchment upholstery)

If so, how are they different from the 68-77?

It looks like the later 68+ have the extra "crash" padding on the top of the seats? Is this correct?

Are the Back trim plates the same? Or different sizes?

Thanks

66/67 seats are the same frames and based on 65-67 Mustang seats.

68-77 are completely different and require different foam and upholstery. These are based on 68/69 Mustang seats.

Ok. Gotcha on that info.

So, if I'm looking at supposedly a 67 Bronco front bucket seat. How can I tell it is actually a 67 seat?

What parts, measurements or other characteristics make the 66-67 seats different from the 68-77?

in 1967 the government required locking seat backs. And the later Bronco seats had mounting pad for head rests the ford never used in the Bronco. Both front seats in the Bronco are based on the Ford mustang drivers seat.

I had a set of 73 seats that each had a little metal tag with a date stamp attached to the springs underneath. I do not know if all years had this but maybe a good place to start.

Rustytruck - So, the earlier 1966-1967 seats would not have the latch for locking into the Footman Loop.

OK. What else makes the 66-67 seats different?

As has been pointed out, it's the frames that are different. Once upholstered, they look identical. Unless you have a measurement of some type or a date tag that was mentioned, you're going to have an enormously difficult time telling the two frames apart without stripping off the foam and upholstery.

I believe the 66-67 seats were slightly narrower, but I couldn't tell you if that difference in width came from the seat frames, or just different foam.

I already have the 66 Silver Upholstery for the front buckets and the rear bench.

How about if I used the later seat and not install the extra "crash pad" at the top. Would the earlier upholstery fit correctly, or is the later frame still too tall?

I still don't think it would work. Iirc the seat thickness isn't the same either. If this were a simple fix guys would would have been doing it long ago.

Remember if you're going the Mustang seat route, you'll need two Mustang driver's seats. Unless you're ok with the passenger seat folding towards the center, instead of both folding towards the passenger.

I have the seats from my 1967 Sport. They are not in great shape but could be rebuilt. I am a long way from you so it might not help. I am doing other seats and may strip parts to make them fit Bronco.
