Does any one have any pictures of a Ramsey pto winch installed. I bought one to put on my 66 and think I am missing part of the drive shaft. Also do I need a shim between the pto and the transfer case or just use a gasket? Thanks gritz
I fought the shim size for a while. Finally went with something pretty thin to make the shift easy. too tight and it wont shift well. I think I went with a standard thickness of gasket material.
Gaskets are used as shims usually no more than 3 .030 thick ea. I believe. Might want to find you some thinner stuff .015 just in case. You use the gaskets to set the backlash in the gears. backlash can affect both shifting and gear noise in the PTO. Usually like .006-.012 is all the back lash you want. You'll want to check the back lash in the tranny and the pto itself before hand to get a feel of what each may have. that all factors in.
Not sure how well the old PTO's were machined but you can usually get away with just one or two gaskets.
I also found that the max rpm from the pto is rated at 400 rpm. not real fast, Hell the bend in the driveline lets it catch the crossmember when I winch in 4th gear so I back off when I hear it start to tick. ;D
Well I got the pto mounted just used gasket and healthy dose of black rtv. The gear seems to engage and disengage easily. Now I just have to figure out a bearing block and move my exhaust.
