Retrosound in-dash speaker

Has anyone installed this speaker in the stock dash speaker location?

In the tech notes it says you may need to use a spacer on the backside of the speaker to keep it from making contact with the dash. What size spacer did you use?

I'm sure it's a pretty straight forward install and probably over thinking it. But if you dont ask you will never know what others have come across during their install.

Thank you in advance for your time/help,

Sonny

I have installed that one into my 66. I cut out a 1/4" plywood plate cut the center hole to match the speaker diameter, then mounted the speaker to the wood w/ countersunk screws facing away from the dash side. After applying a speaker grille cloth to it and gluing in place, I place the wood plate (w/ speaker mounted) to the back of the dash, and run the factory sheet metal screws thru the dash into the wood to secure to the dash. Looks factory and is an easy install.

I still had the original wooden frame that was covered with the grill cloth, so the install was pretty easy. Of course that's relative since there isn't that much room back there. Without the OEM wooden frame, it would be easy to fabricate something, and I would have done just as Brian recommended.
