I have a killer 74 that is original with no rust.... i want to put in a roll cage but not one that interferes with glove box and e brake. i have heard you have to support the windshield with the top off or it will come back when the doors are open. any information on cages out there?

That's not true, it's not just going to flop back. The windshield does not rely on the doors or top to stay up. That being, said, several vendors carry braces that run from the windshield to the roll cage for added support, such as these, from WildHorses.

They do help keep the windshield aligned correctly. I'm glad I put them in mine.

You dont need them but there nice to have. I put 2000 miles on my bronco this summer with no top and no windshield frame tieins. I will say that my viewfinder frame sits way forward of the door frames so when im driving the frame gets pushed back. If your frame is old your door might hit the windshield frame when you close them. In the long run i will add the tie-ins when i get a cage.

It will get annoying real fast hitting bumps or windy days. On my first bronco the windshield would come back and hit the door frame while i was driving. Later I found a little rust in the cowl. My newer bronco didn't do that except on really bad bumps and it doesn't have a lick of rust on it. It's just so flimsy up there. Looking in the rear-view mirror could prove useless. Plus you'll feel a lot better having a roll-cage.

They're a must on my 66 with removable upper door frames. Without the windshield flaps back and forth depending on amount of air coming over it. I too used the WH style braces and simple weld-on bungs.

I drilled and tapped the rollbar. It keeps the top from scratching against the doors..

I'm taking my truck to get its cage built by a racing shop. I'm putting in a similar 4 point to the Overhaulin cage on JBG but I will have solid bars running from the cage to the windshield that attach with tabs through the same bolts that hold the top on. I'll post picks when we're done.

If you dont have the forward part of the cage you can run tubing from the main hoop to the wind sheild and bolt it through the top holes and bolt it to the main hoop. Thats what I did with my 67 and it made a big differance. I will have to take a pic the next time the tops off.

Good God! What make's the Wildhorses braces so expensive?

I use $4.00 burnbuckles from home depot on my Bronco.
