With summer has come all the usual running hot threads. Seen a advertisment for Royal Purple Ice. Made to mix with anti-freeze unlike some of the water wetter's. I don't have a problem, but was wondering if anyone has tried it.

When it comes down to it I dont think theres any differance in watter wetter or royal purple ice they both make the same claims. Probably the same product just different colors and packaging.
Both will probably help a little but I dont think you'll see any major differance if your cooling system is not up to par to begin with. Most likey scale buildup in the radiator is preventing good heat transfer to begin with. The additives wont help much in that situation'
I've never seen much of a reduction in temps with either of those products of course I was only going by the stock guage though. So its very hard to say for sure.

I put it in mine, I think it helps a little, certainly doesn't hurt. If you have a cooling problem though this isn't going to solve it.

I've ran watter wetter, and purple ice in my 66 Buick drag car. Watter wetter did absolutely nothing to my temps, purple ice dropped me about 7-12 degrees. Granted my whole cooling system is new (Not running a heater core though). Another thing is my Car runs full out for 11-12 seconds, not running all day in the back of country side. . . But only purple ice made a difference in my car.

Water Wetter (Redline) can be run with coolant.

I have it in the Bronco and my other vintage cars and it does make a difference during extremely hot weather.

Does anyone know how it works?
Does it transfer heat better than water/coolent?
Or does it transfer worse?
Either way it will get your water temp down but does it really help cool or just keep from boiling over?

I would say that is a big improvement for just adding something in the radiator.

Huge improvement! I didn't think it would do anything and wasn't gonna buy it cause it was like almost 20 bucks I think. Glad I did, too bad I blew a head gasket right after (ALWAYS RE-TORQUE!!) Doh.

Water wetter review

I realize you were asking about Purple Ice, but I thought you might find this test of Water Wetter interesting. Doesn't seem to lower overall temp alot but seems to lower head temp enough to be worthwhile. I have used it in a X1/9 and my Porsche and think it helped. X1/9 always ran hot at low speeds or when racing. shaun1300

I ran water wetter for about a year and did not really notice anything. After I had a hose spring a leak on the highway and almost drained the radiator I filled it back up with premixed 50/50. Now it runs 5-15° hotter all the time. If I could find some Royal Purple Ice I will try that out next.any idea where to find some?
