Running Boards?

I'm thinking of putting running boards on my '73. I have small kids and they can not get in and out without help. My question is: Is there anyone who has installed them if so what brand and does it take special mounting brackets?

I have the same issue of having a step that makes it easy for my kids to climb in and out of my bronco. My solution was to install nerf bars. Mine are from Tom's Bronco Parts. They were kind of spendy at $200, but I think they look good and are very functional. Plus I have something to stand on to wash the roof of my truck. There is a plate that is used for a front attachment point that requires just a few holes to be drilled. The rear attaches to a rear spring bolt. Pretty easy to install.

If you do a lot of offroading just be aware that these hang lower than the body and could get hung up on objects. They are also not designed to support the weight of the vehicle or be used as rock skis. Here's a pic:

I saw a set on a yellow bronco in one of the newer 4x4 magazines. I think they were custom made and molded into the steel fender flares he had.

I think that was in a recent issue of Peterson's 4WD & Offroad. Interesting idea, but personally I didn't like the look of the custom fiberglass flares. But to each their own.

I feel the same way about running boards on an Early Bronco. YIKES! Get the kids a ladder and leave the running boards for the Surburban and Astrovan crowd! GideeUP! It's a Bronco! ;D

I read a post some time back where a guy had made a hinged step that was spring loaded . I think he had a hinge on the side of the frame , a piece of tube running out like a T and a spring to retract it . It must have had a stop to keep it from drooping too much . Another suggestion was a 5 gallon bucket and a rope !

I also put bars on my bronco. I decided to use the Carr clamp steps also to make it easier for my wife and mother to get in. The nice thing is that they are easy to remove when it comes time to hit the trail.

I have a set of diamone plate steps I'll be removing and selling soon. The body is already off the frame. Just haven't removed the un-necessary parts. I'm replacing them with a 4x6 square tube rocker guard that will go up to the top of the step here. They are nice and sturdy. Only thing you'll need is some 1"x1" square tube to brace them on each side.

if you are interested in them, I can take better pics tonight and e-mail them to you.

I'll let them go for $100.00 + Shipping...

BTW: I'm 6'3" 230lbs and they hold my heavy ass up very well. I wouldn't worry about them at all...

stirrups

I saw a stirrup that can be mounted in the floorboard. Open the door, pull out the stirrup, and step in. You can then pull the stirrup back in the cab and go. (Throw it under the passenger side seat.)

Pimp My Ride had a suburban build up that they put an automatic retractable step that would tuck up nice until the door was opened. It looked promising.

I am not sure if that is the brand. It seems like if you had a body lift you could tuck them up even better than the picture shows huh.

I'm fairly sure they mount to the vertical portion of the body behind the rocker so a bodylift may not matter. The EB and F150 seem to be similar enough to make it possible. No drivers side on the EB if you have an aux tank though.
