Rust Repair in Wheel Well

Welp the bronco is under the knife as I am redoing the suspension. Eventually I will tackle the body and paint but while I was fitting the new rear shock mounts I noticed some rust in the rear wheel wells. I started to grind off the surface and was not happy with what I found.

This is my first time working with rust and the rest of the rig is pretty solid (oregon rig). Ive watched a few videos and I am thinking I'll cut a strip of sheet metal and weld it on and then grind it flat. The rust is right where the floor plan meets the wheel well. On the other side is Rhino Lining which you can see through the rust hole.

I don't really want to replace the entire wheel well as the inside looks great and has the bed liner.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!!!

As long as you can get to some solid steel to weld in a patch you don't need to replace the whole thing. The problem is going to be removing enough bed liner to see how much rust you have on the panel behind the wheel well. You need to find how far the rust has gone and then take enough bed liner off to keep it from melting while you are welding in the patches. Those seams where the panels meet are notorious for rusting.
Good luck with it!

The issue is from the inside out. There is a lap seam there where the floor meets the inner fender. They are only spot welded, and moisture is held.

If it isn't that bad, then you can patch as above. What does it look like inside the tub, looking in from the top?

Thanks for the responses. I'm not sure what it looks like from the inside as it is all covered in rhino lining so it looks fine. I'll have to go in and cut it out to see how bad it is.
