Devin I never told you to take it apart. What I wanted you to do was make a small jumper wire to go from the small terminal to the larger terminal right next to it. Install this wire and then hook the big power to the large terminal. These starters are not wired like ford one wire starters. So the jumper wire is needed to let the key start feature work. With the jumper in place the starter will work just like a ford one wire set up. If you want to use the 2 wire set up you have to run the smaller wire to the start side of your solenoid on the fender well. It's just an extra wire you don't need.
Did you ever put big power to the starter wire after the solenoid just to see if the starter turns over?

Sorry, it sounded funny how I typed it. I did the jumper thing before I took it apart. Nothing happened. Then I took the back end off and did the jumper thing again and saw the little wiggle of the main shaft (every time I touched power to it, the shaft would pull to one side slightly). No real movement, though. Starter no workie. I will call Summit tomorrow.

Summit said that they would send me a new one. I am going to do one more quick check before I send it off.

So is it a next weekend thing?

Unfortunately, no. I may do the check thing tonight if I get time. But, I am booked tomorrow night and the night after. Then, I am flying out to California on Thursday night for a business/leisure trip for 8 days. So it is going to be a while. Par for the course when it comes to me. %)

I have the same starter in my '78 with a 460. Hooked the + batt cable to batt side of solenoid and to starter. hooked small wire to opposite terminal (hot start) of solenoid and then to small terminal on starter.
Thing is a steaming pile, never engaged, had to jump solenoid with a screwdriver to get to turn over, solenoid would just click when turned key. Summit swapped 2 of them and finally returned for refund. None of them ever worked, replaced with a starter from a '95 F-250 (OEM mini starter) has been flawless since.

Well that is crappy news. Maybe I will just ask for a refund, then.
