I'm trying to build a 70' Mach 1 style shaker hood for my 74'. Has anyone attempted this? Any other type of ram air hood setup?

I've been wanting to do a shaker for years but prolly never will. My second choice would be a Ram Air from a 68 Shelby. The only functional scoop I've seen on a Bronco was a Pro-Flow hood modified for air induction with an air cleaner that sealed against the hood when closed. Not really a forced air but definitely a cool air intake and it won't let the filter get wet in the rain or when puddle jumping. I'm guessing the air cleaner came from Trans-Am.

Eventually, I'm running with a ta shaker. I liked the looks of the one Derrick Bondy had. His 73 bronco "half cab" used to be the one on the cover of JGB.

Well, every place wants 1000.00 for any Mach 1 shaker setup.
I did find a place here in Texas that sells a TA shaker for $98.00 open and $133.00 with a 12v solenoid actuated flapper. Here is the link:

Unless I'm reading that site wrong thats just for the flapper kit not the scoop

Cavalry,
Your correct. I need a new pair of glasses. I should have known the price was too cheap for the whole assembly. Thanks for catching that. I guess I keep working on the custom built approach.

Wildbill,
Can you post a picture of that F-600 setup you're talking about? It sounds interesting and I've never seen one. Thanks!

I've thought of the same thing!! I had a 70 Ranchero that had the Shaker Hood and that thing was awesome!!. I believe that the Torino/Ranchero set-up is better looking and easier to find than the Mach1 set. It is pointed in the front not straight like the Mach1 and it is bigger. I found a site that makes repos, I'll look for the link. It's often on ebay for sale. The one on my Ranchero needed work but I did it. It would look cool on an EB!!! Something different!!

I like the Torino shaker better myself, but hold on to your groin when you get a load of prices; I've seen the shakers on e-bay go for $500 and up for the Cleveland ones, and the ones that are for the 429CJ/SCJ are usually more. I'm not sure what the difference is, but there is one, although it wouldn't apply to a Bronco. I was thinking of trying to graft the hood scoop off of a '72 Torino/Ranchero onto a Bronco hood; it wouldn't be a shaker, but the lines are similar and it would almost look stock. A Maverick Grabber would be wierd too, but both of those hoods are getting hard to find, and I wouldn't want to butcher a good one. I'd have to find one that had some damage around the area I want. The T/A shaker would probably be the most cost-effective, and would look pretty good.

Funny you should mention that, I'm currently talking with a guy that builds carbon-fiber/plastic stuff, he has a Torino scoop mold. I'm supposed to take the EB there, whenever I get off my butt, so we can figure which way to go, grafting or a full carbon-fiber/plastic hood. Probably going to just do a complete hood.

When he's done with that, custom door inserts with half doors are next. :)

Please post some pics if/when you do this. I'd also be very interested in knowing how much that would cost. I'm looking hard at a proflow hood now, but I think the shaker wins the cool competition. Let us know how it turns out...

I'd like to see some pics myself, I'd like to see if it looks like my minds eye pictures it. I found a couple of Maverick Grabber hoods a while back, but never bit on them. I'd rather have the 72 Torino one, but I haven't run on to one that has a good center and crumpled edges or front.

Madgyver,
That is way cool! Thanks for the link.
Price is reasonable for custom repro
versus some of the Mustang shakers.
