Ok, so i'm taking apart my dash to get it painted to match the rest of the truck... but I can't quite figure out how to remove the ignition switch.... There a secret way you have to hold one's tongue?

Also, dash mount the new Tach or mount it on the steering wheel? My truck had no radio, so I have some space on the dash, plus its an automatic street, mild trail rig, not a trail only rig so its not that critical to have a tach, I just like knowing.

Any help would be appreciated.

you need to remove the key cyl first, then you push the back of the switch in and twist. comes right out.

billet tach mount on the column is a nice option. ;)

I believe you need a gym clip, very small piece of stiff wire, etc that will fit in small hole on the key plate inside bezel. you might think it would be where you would oil it or something. it is just a small hole. put the key into the ignition switch and also insert the above mentioned gym clip straighted out.and turn counter clokwise maybe a quarter turn. it should make a small snap sound and key and cyl.come out. then turn spring loaded cup looking device on back of dash. I think. try and see it has been a while.

Sounds like the others covered your question about ign switch removal. I vote dash-mounted tach. That's where mine is, and it works for me. Its right by my ARB switches and above my shifters, where I'm always looking anyway.

Mine was a bear to get out since to was in there since new...it worked better once I had it hit with WD-40. Then the paper clip trick worked fine.

Perfect, thanks.

Something is confusing on this site, that is the tech articles section. Very tough to navigate. I looked for an article on trying to remove the switch and came up empty. Lo and behold, there's a link.

Thanks again, gone with the IN dash approach. Think it will look cleaner, less a second thought.
