This all started about 2 months ago. I have a ZF with the internal slave. It began with the clutch feeling funny, checked the fluid and s###, it was low. I have had a ZF for over15 yrs and love it. In the few times the trans has been out I have always replaced the slave with a new one because with my luck it will start leaking the next day if I don't. Well, the one in there is only 1.5 yrs old and leaking.
OK fine!! new clutch this time as well. Of coarse while I'm under there today starting the replacement I notice the rear 9" housing has taken a good hit from a rock and has a pinhole leak at a weld. The pinion is also starting to weep. OK no biggy, its in my shop I'll whip it apart too and fix the leaks. Well that's when I find that one axle doesn't just slide out. Its actually binding in the splines. Crap, that means the housing is probably bent. Yep, when I put in my axle housing alignment tool one side is out by .250"
So, tomorrow is clutch replacement and housing straightening day. This should be fun with a trussed housing.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining ......I'm just remembering all the fun I had getting it this way. ;D;D;D;D;D
