Nashville,
Got in this morning and couldn't get her started. Turned over and over but wouldn't catch.

Can ya'll give me a checklist of things I need to figure out why she isn't cranking?

Heres some info:
Fuel was in the filter, fuel pump is about 6 months old, filters are new, gas system is new(tank, lines).

How do I check for spark?

Thanks!

Back to basics. An engine needs three things to run. Air, Fuel (as something close to the right ratio) and spark (at something close to the right time).

Assuming no major mechanical problems with the engine, if it turns over you're getting air. So the question is, are you missing fuel or spark (or both).

I usually have a can of starting fluid around the garage for just this reason. One squirt in the air cleaner and turn the engine over. If it fires you're missing fuel. If it doen't fire, there's a good chance you're missing spark. Also, you can remove the air cleaner and look down inside the carb as you work the throttle. You should see a squirt of fuel in the primary venturies as you open the throttle.

Lots of ways to check for spark. I have been known to remove a spark plug wire, at the spark plug, and put a screwdriver down inside the boot. Turn the key to ON, hold the metal shaft of the screwdriver near the engine block, or some metal thing, and turn the engine over by shorting out the BAT+ and Start at the solenoid.

You also may have flooded the engine. So it may have both fuel and spark but too much fuel wont ignite so it wont start. it may stat right up this evening. Some of these old vehicles require a certain amount of "specail" steps to start. Something like pump the pedal 2 times and hold slightly open or pump once, or hold pedal to the floor. ect. I rarely have issues with starting SBF's once I tuned them to my liking.

X2 on the above. Also check the ignition wire on the solenoid. They usually have a push on type connector and can come off or be loose. how do I know . . . ? %)
