Steering Column Lower Bearing Removal

I have a 1979 Bronco tilt column and the bottom bearing needs replaced. I bought the new steel replacement bearing, which should be here today. The original black plastic bearing is still on the column.

How does this bearing come off? Can I just pull it off? Would a puller work best, or can I just force it off another way? I just don't want to create another problem by tearing up the splines. Any suggestions?

If it is like an eb column it will pop right out with very little effort. The eb lower bearings are not a press fit.

I assume that I won't need that black plastic, but I don't have the new steel bearing in hand yet.

The bearing is fit into the column tube the same way the Van steering column tube is. I see with the info I provided on column lengths you are using the Bronco column.

Yes I would even prefer it be an inch or two shorter if possible.
