Steering Knuckle pull test

I had new balljoints pressed into my knuckles and installed one side tonight. I read the manual and followed the procedure. Using a puller I pressed the knuckles in place and tightened the lower nut to 80 Ft-Lbs. Then went to the upper balljoint and set the adjusting sleeve to 40 Ft-Lbs. Nest I tightened the upper nut to 100 Ft-lbs and then rotated it forward to match up with the cotter key hole. I cant find my scale right now but I know I have more then the reccomended max of 26 lbs resistance on turning the knuckle. The manual says to toss the balljoints if this is the case. What is the danger of running this a little tight and also cant I just take it apart and restart the procedure?

Jesus, first I have heard of this problem and I have changed more of these than I care to remember.

The only measurement I go by is that everything is snug, no slop, and moving. Once this is achieved, a real good greasing of the ball joints usually eases up the pressure needed to turn the knuckles. If it is still a little tight, I drive it for a bit, then recheck it. they usually are fine by the end of 500 miles.

Leave them on hook it up grease the snot out of it, and drive it for a bit. If one is pooched, it will die fast, and that is only one you have to replace.

Replace the all?? Nope, not this cowboy. Try the above, I will wager your paycheck everything will be fine.
