Stock bumper with body lift

Is there a way to modify a stock bumper for a body lift?

I think I remember somebody mentioning using two bumpers. Splitting the first then using the second as a spacer/filler down the middle. Can't remember the details.

Most of what I've seen is people fabbing up something to cover that space, rather than messing with the bumper itself.

How much body lift? 1" looks okay with stock bumpers, 2" and up there's too much gap. Not sure I'd mess with altering a factory bumper, fabbing up a cover for the gap can work nicely.
