Just thought I would ask, will a stock cleaner fit on a stock 351W without hood clearance issues? Thanks, Mac

The issue you have to deal with is getting the carburetor mounting surface high enough to clear the right side valve cover while not getting it too high, hitting the hood. The spark plug wire loom support spot welded to the valve cover had to be moved or removed on my 351. I chose to go with the '80s small block plug wire routing scheme around the front of the valve covers. The support could be re-welded a few inches forward to clear the air cleaner. This would retain a more original look.
Intake choice is also important. If you choose to go 4bbl, the '69 Mustang-Cougar intake is easiest. In my truck the Performer is too tall, tho the Performer EGR works but needs the EGR hole plugged unless you need EGR to pass emission inspection.
I use the OE exhaust manifolds so the air cleaner support works.
All this is based on using the '70-'77 air cleaner that has a longer snorkel to allow room for automatic chokes between the carb and the air cleaner housing. I haven't tried to use the early air cleaner.

I was wondering the same thing. I was also curious what 4bbl carbs and manifolds would allow this to work. Would love to try an aftermarket Qjet.

The Ford 4100s, Holley 4150-4160s, and AFBs (often called Edelbrocks) are the same height. To the best of my knowledge the GM QJet is also the same height. As I said the '69 Mustang-Cougar 351w 4bbl intake works best. The Edelbrock Performer EGR works too, but has a hole that needs to be plugged.

Chuck had a q-jet on his with a stock air cleaner, under a stock hood and no body lift. You need to find a low profile econoline manifold to oull that off

There is no such thing as an Econoline intake. Ford made an EGR cast iron 4bbl intake on what they called the 5.8 HO 4bbl. These were mostly in F series pickups. Broncos and E series vans also had this option. The casting was changed from the '69 Mustang only in that it allows EGR. Both the '69 and mid '80s castings were used on marine engines where the later casting had no EGR hole in the carburetor mounting surface. The marine casting and the '69 castings work equally well. The '69s are a lot easier to find and for less $. There's one on ebey now that only has $50 bid so far. All these factory intakes are the same height. The EGR types need to be used on Broncos needing EGR or the hole has to be plugged-covered.
