I am putting a 1972 Body on a 1986 chassis. Basically 6.5 inches per side wider, so the tailgate will need to be 13 inches wider. The body is going around 13 inches longer also. I am working off a friend's project plans that he built a few years back. It was a race Bronco, so I will have to figure out a couple things he did not have on his like the Hard top, tailgate and all the Glass. All stuff I have on the list. I picked up a 1972 Bronco over the summer that had been in a front end collision and the frame has been damaged pretty bad along with the whole front clip and motor were missing when I bought it, but I could not pass up the killer deal I got on it. And because of how bad the frame is and with the motor in front clip missing I don't feel bad about cutting up the body and stretching it. The body itself is in rough condition also and my friend who's Bronco I am modeling mine after has fiberglass molds already and he's going to give me the fiberglass I need for the rear, which are styled after the original Bronco uncut quarter panels but they are stretched. He did all the work in metal then made the fiberglass so he could race it and not worry about trashing the metal work. This will save me a ton of time. We just have to take the molds down to John at AutoFab and he will make the quarter panels for me so I will know they will be quality fenders because I had a set of his bed sides on my 86 Bronco for 20 years.
I need to get the 72 Bronco down to the CHP for a VIN verification before I do any cutting on it, so I can get the Bronco title in my name. That is where I'm at right now in this time of covid
collecting parts, I am picking up a new hood on Friday, I'm getting one without the vents in it so it makes it easier to widen it. I also am eliminating the fresh air system under the hood and placing a VintageAir unit in that cavity once it's been sealed up from the engine compartment with watertight removable access panels.
So I have a lot of work to do just like most of the people working on broncos
I am basically building a full size early Bronco which is perfect for fat guys like me
