Got a Tamiya RC bronco for Christmas. Started putting it together, Wow ALOT of pieces!! I wanted to paint it the same color as my 67, the instructions of course call for Tamika paint, I have some paint left from my bronco (single stage paint) has anyone used something like that instead of the Tamiya paint? I checked and they don't really have a color that matches mine. Body is plastic (polycarbonate).

The issue you run into is the bonding of the paint to the plastic. You dont have to use Tamiya paint, most any brand rc paint will work. I used automotive paint on the outside of mine after using a primer. Cut out one of the wheel wells and use it as a test piece to see how it will bond. After its cured bend the plastic and see if it peels or sticks.

Congratulations! I received one as well. :)

Funny, I've got so much stuff to do with the 1:1 scale Bronco that I'd feel guilty putting the smaller scale one together.

Keep searching for the proper RC Lexan paint for the truck. I liked AMainHobbies:

Typically you paint the inside of the clear lexan bodies with the color you want the car. Masking appropriately. This protects the paint from inevitable bumps and scrapes if you drive the vehicle. You won't be able to get a flat paint color though, it'll look like a clear coat. No primer, unless you want the car to be the color of the primer. :)

Have fun!

I have used duplicolor perfect match paint as seen in advance discount auto with decent results. Experience painting lexan bodies is a must with this paint IMO. It has held up fine and has not popped off. They have Wimbledon white and other ford colors!

I'm looking to buy an RC Bronco, never had one. I would like decent speed with crawling capabilities. Whats the best out there?

Congrats! Make sure you use a paint that is made specifically for Lexan. Normal paint won't bond well and will flake off because it won't flex with the body. Ask me how I know! I have use Duplicolor with good results on hard plastic bodies.
