I followed the wordpress blog post on how to do 'the alice' conversion step-by-step.

I am not sure, however, whether or not they are supposed to protrude out of the grill as far as mine do.

I have a 68, so I did clear lenses and amber bulbs.

The grill on mine is from a later one I am told (perhaps late 68 or 69) because it had the bigger mounts and lenses on it with the melting gaskets, etc.

These are wired up and work great, but I expected the final product to be more, I don't know, flush I guess.

Here's some photos - what do you think?

It looks like you installed an aftermarket kit with mounting hardware that causes this. I followed a tech article on this site written by Todd Z. which sets them inside the stamped frame on the grill like the original design. I don't have a good close-up shot but check this out.

I purchased the aftermarket adapter kit but did not use it. I followed the tech article and mine are pretty flush.
