Those with a Carter Electric Fuel Pump

For those with a Carter Electric pump how do you have it plumbed? I ask as I may be experiencing a pump or component failure.

Currently pump is going into bypass regulator...curious as to how many use a bypass vs no bypass as the pump runs constantly

If you've got a P4070, it's a rotary vane pump and will run constantly.

Is there a reason why you have a regulator after the pump? These pumps put out a pretty consistant 5-6 PSI, which should be good for just about any carb, except a Carter AFB or Edelbrock Performer running off-road.

I have been running a Carter electric fuel pump for 21 years now. As Steve said they are a rotary vane style and tough to wear out. It's plumbed from tank, inline filter and then straight to carburetor.

3-6 psi..... I tried a cheap fuel regulator once... big mistake. If you need a regulator pay the money for a good one!

Mine is on a separate switch so I can turn on and off no matter where the ignition is...... sometimes if you are experiencing flooding it's nice to turn the pump off while you clear it.

They are easy to rebuild and you can pull to the top off of the pump to look at the vanes to see if they are damaged.

no flooding at all...not a cheap regulator either...ran a regulator to assure no over pressuring of the system but I may have over estimated it. Going to pull it off and mount the gauge in line and see what occurs

Been running the 4070 of over 30 years no issues, no regulator. my pump is close to the rear tank with a filter installed between it and the tank with another filter up near the carb. havent had any issues with it on holley's edelbrock or motorcraft 2100's. My first carter pump was over 25 years old and still pumping before I pulled it off and installed another just because the pumpo was over 25 years old of course a few months later the old one would no longer work not real sure why might have gotten gummed up in side once it dried out.
