tranny questions

i was looking for a 3 speed for my 1970 302. and i bought one and had it looked over by a good mechanic, he even dropped it off at my house. however now that i dropped my drivetrain and separated the tranny from the transfer case adapter, i noticed that the output shafts are completely different. my new transmission looks like an HEF for a straight six. the output is considerably shorter that my old one. even if i could swap out the output shafts, will this tranny, if its for a straight six, be compatible with my 302 V8? I was doing some reading on here and it seems like they might be geared differently. if anyone has any insight or answers to my predicament it would be greatly appreciated. thanks, mike

I highly doubt the parts can be swapped. From what I know the 6cyl trans is different enough that its probably not possible even without the gearing differances. Id look in the classifieds Im pretty sure that there is someone that is usally parting out broncos near you.

Chalk it up as a lesson learned and rebuild the one you pulled out. They honestly aren't that hard to rebuild. There's a link to the Ford manual somewhere that shows what to do.
