Some of the best tranny coolers you can get are made by Tru-Cool. I'm running a Tru-Cool LPD4590 rated at 28,000# GVW. Probably overkill, but with the money a good rebuild cost, I figured it's worth it.
This type also has a temp sensor in it, so it doesn't send it through the cooler when cold, improving cold weather driveability.

I got an automatic that has 220,000 miles on it and still works flawlessly. I put a cooler on it when it was 3 months old. I change the trans oil every 40,000. I say coolers are a good thing especially if you are towing or live in hotter climates.

You aren't clear. Do you mean A transmission coolere? Or do you mean an auxillary transmission cooler? If you have a C4 the radiator should have a cooler built in. An auxillary cooler will definitly add life to your C4. NO TRANSMISSION COOLER, YOU C4 WILL DIE QUICKLY. :'(
How have you guys plumbed your Aux cooler? Did you buy some stainless line and bend/flare it yourselves? For some reason I don't think that regular hose will be strong enough?

The hose works if you go back and re-tighten the clamps after a couple of cycles of driving and letting it cool down. But I use steel lines but not stainless, I use the same tubing that is used for the stock tranny lines.
There are special coolers made by tru-cool that have fittings that support that type of installation.
