Trip to the junkyard, what do I take off of a 1996 Explorer?

First and foremost thanks to everybody for all the great advice on my previous post about the 93 computer!

What I found in the junkyard is a relatively complete 1996 Explorer 5.0. If I were interested in going with the Explorer EFI setup what would be the critical parts to get off of this motor?

I actually already have the Explorer serpentine, so that's not a consideration.

My list so far:
ECM/ECU, engine harness, ignition system (coils/wires, etc), upper and lower intake including fuel rails, ...

MAF has already been salvaged, what else am I missing?

Thanks in advance!

charcoal canister I think its above the gas tank.
Cam position sensor - in distributor hole
Crank position sensor and bracket - by timing pointer, i think you need to remove fan to get to it but maybe not.

The heads too. The 96 heads have the better spark plug angle so most bronco headers will work if you add a bung for the o2 sensor.

Charcoal canister? Do I really need that? The guys at Ron Francis said they would flash the ECM for emissions delete and build their MG-91E harness to correspond.

I will add the cam position sensor and crank position sensor to my list.

Thank you,
JB

I have 95 Mustang heads in wild horses shorty headers with 92 bung and sensors already installed.

If somebody else has a need for these heads, I could be persuaded to pull them and ship them.

Thanks,

You don't need the charcoal canister but you need to vent your gas tank. The charcoal canister helps prevent your garage from smelling like gas on hot days. It's an emissions thing but kinda not, the purge valve just sucks the fumes held in the canister into your intake when it thinks it a good time.

You're going to need something for a fuel pump. Search for "Boss Hugg Tank" and you'll find the pics of what I did for an in-tank pump. There are also options for an external pump or an aftermarket tank for the bolt in pump.

OBD II port and as much tail on it as you can get.

inertia switch from the Pass kick panel, with plug and tail.

Auto trans wiring harness, used for auto or manual trans, sell it if you don't use.

Throttle cable, ground cable in back of the motor and ground point green double sided self tapping bolt. You will need more grounds.

Figure out how you are doing fuel, may want to get rear harness plug to factory fuel pump assembly, if that is the route you go.

MAF and ACT for incoming air temp

relay box that holds like 4 relays and the long wire harness that goes back around behind the brake booster i think.

valve covers, oil fill. grab the serp parts and sell to someone here. fan if its metal (you will need to "rent" the serp tool from autozone). if you see an 03-06 ( i think) escape, the ECM box that is below the wiper valance is not too hard to get out and works well in Bronco application.

Well the trip to the junkyard was a little bit less profitable than I'd hoped.
I got the ECM/PCM, The camshaft position sensor, and the coil packs before I ran out of time. The motor harness had been hacked in a few pretty unfortunate places, and damage to the bottom of the front end made the crankshaft position sensor inaccessible without torches or some other tools I didn't bring with me.

I think my 95 Mustang motor has a crankshaft position sensor? I'll be doing my reading here and on some other forms for sure!

I checked mine every 6 mos or so to see if they get a new 5.0 in. I had a moderately successful trip today.. picked up an ok set of valve covers (they might clean up after a quick blast) and a power steering reservoir. Fortunately someone ahead of me had removed the upper intake so it took less than an hour.
