Can anyone offer any instruction on the turn signal cancellation cam? Bought one for my later model column (hazards on the dash) but having trouble figuring out just how it goes on.
Consulted some explodes diagrams to no help as well as YouTube.
Here’s a couple pics of the column:

And here’s a pic of the cam on the shaft:

The cam is waayyy bigger in diameter than the shaft and there isn’t any obvious way it keys on there or is held.
If it matters I’ll be installing a wild horses ‘woody’ steering wheel with adapter and such.
Any guidance is appreciated.

The cam fits around a collar on the back of your stock wheel. Here a thread with pictures. Not sure if it will work with your wheel.... your adapter may have come with some pins that perform the function of the cam.

Thanks for this. My adapter for my new wheel did come with two roll pins (no instructions though) so I’m guessing I use those in lieu of this cancelling cam.

You will be way better off getting the actual cancelling cam on the new steering wheel adaptor

If you use the pins, you need to get them set correctly and 'carefully' test them out ... they can do a lot of damage to your harness and whatever that white piece is called [turn signal cancellation switch].

Hard to see but this is the stock cancelling cam on the back of a Grant Adapter.

/\/\ ditto...... I destroyed more than one turn signal switch using the pins. They can get hung up on the arms and cause all kinds of hell....

The link that bknbronco posted is a good solution if you get it done right but the stock cam is the best.

Thanks for the links and the help.
Here’s some pics - maybe to help someone else out.
Roll pins that came with the adapter

Where they go on the adapter (laying by their intended holes)

Here’s a couple pics of the stock cam. I used snap ring pliers to spread it apart to get it to go on the shaft. Yes...I said that.

The extra tall bit interferes with the adapter seating so I cut it off.

Under operation, it still grabs the plastic cancelling arms too tightly - not quite enough clearance. So I will be grinding them off some as described to work smoother.

What clock position does the cam point to? 3 tries and it still won’t cancel.

I believe 9’ o clock - opposite the column mounted hazard flashed. I installed it so the cam was between the turn signal arms when straight. It shouldn’t matter though much, as I think about it. The clock position won’t change whether it engages the arms or not.

Huh, my cam only has one bump, unlike the one in that pic.

Most reproduction ones have a single bump. It works just as well but requires a little more wheel rotation to get past the arm. It should be centered between the arms. That would put it at 9 o’clock.

So i have 2 1977 broncos and had to put a turn signal switch in both. I tried to do the first with the same cam you have and that will only work on the stock steering wheel Both of my broncos have aftermarket steering wheels but with the same adapters you have. The cam does not work with either of those and I used the pin method. While a lot of people have stated the pins can do lots of damage, the roll pins go into the two holes. Make sure you tap them down till they bottom out. The two pins then fit between the arms of your turn signal switch, right in the middle of the arms. That way when you turn just a little bit they catch that arm and turn the turn signal off. I have not had any of the problems most people note with the Pins, I have taken one of mine apart due to horn issues a couple of times and there is no damage due to the pins and the turns signals work perfectly.
