Anyone have a Tweco welder, or reviews/ opinions on them? I was Originally looking at a Lincoln 210MP, but they price jumped up to about $1300, then I came across this:

http://www.weldingsuppliesfromioc.c...cker=461-895&gclid=CIL6nv_HuMsCFQctaQod4DUDLw

Also has a rebate for a free helmet.

My other option is to look for a used transformer style Lincon or Miller. I just liked the idea of being able to add a TIG torch later on.

Most of my use will be under 1/4" at home, (frames, rollcages, body work) if I need bigger I can take my project to work.

Discuss....

I bought the 211i last summer. It used to be Thermal Arc. It's a great welder. You can search over at Welding Web for reviews. Lots of people like them. The one thing you will hear is that the new guns use Tweco's own design so you can't pick up tips at home Depot. I haven't had any issues but I am just a newbie learning to weld by replacing sheet metal on my rig.

Keep in mind that it is a DC only TIG which means you can only do steel with it without using more exotic gases you will not be able to do aluminum with a DC TIG and those exotic gases cause TIG aluminum on DC to be cost prohibitive. If you think you will mess around a little with aluminum it may be worth a little bit more to get a unit that does AC as well. It will give you far more versatility later on down the line. If you don't think that will happen you can still spool aluminum with the MIG and a spool gun or stick it, it just wont be as good of a weld as AC TIG.

If budget is a concern, I purchased a 110 model from Eastwood. Will go up to 3/16" with a single pass. I don't have/didn't want to pay to install 220 in my garage. Does sheet metal really nice. Has the gas regulators and all, ready to set up. Can also run flux core or buy the attachment to weld aluminum. Was Eastwood's Model 135. Ran under $300.

The multi-format welders are nice as you basically get 3 units in one. The only limitation is with aluminum as mentioned previously. Been tossing this very subject around myself. Trying to decide between the ESAB Rebel 215i, and the Mig only Miller 211. And now just added the TWECO to the list.

i've been in the same boat also. between the rebel the tweco 211i or the mp 210, think im going to order the tweco on monday. I like the rebel i don't like it 500 dollars more though. the tweco will also hold 12" spools that is a big selling point for me don't care about the tig or stick functions.

I have the miller 211 which is 110 or 220. I have not had to use 220 yet. also got a spoolmate as part of the rebate, so my son in law is going to show me how to weld light aluminum with it. they have a small portable tig at work we can borrow so I was not interested in the tig. got mine from cyberweld.

I don't know about this specific welder, but Tweco has been around a long time and makes great parts, mig guns, contact tips, nozzles, etc...

Tweco has had a very good reputation for a long time.

It may be that they were manufacturing for another company and are now selling the welders themselves.

Unless the brand has been sold to China (as happens a lot) I'd buy one.

well pulled the trigger on the tweco. ordered from here https://www.weldersupply.com/P/605/FabricatoriPartWFREESHIP

cheapest price free shipping and free tweco hood.

and tweco is now owned by victor technologies/esab who owns , thermal dynamics, thermal arc ect...

Thanks for the link. Also, thanks for the info on Tweco. That helped my son and I make up our minds. Sounds like we will be ordering up one of the Tweco 211i packages.

Thanks everyone for the input. I knew Tweco had been around forever, most of the contact tips I have ever bought for my dads Lincoln were Tweco.

I am not worried about the DC only TIG, its rare I weld aluminum, I have access to enough other TIG welders that is not a deal breaker, most of my TIG is steel and stainless

Well got the tweco set up tonight. welds awesome. bought a 33 pound spool for it that makes the most happy i think. It just purrs. The fan on demand is awesome also, didn't even hear it come on with the little bit of welding we did tonight. the set up chart was dead on for what we were practicing on. burn back feature is cool to. very happy so far with the purchase.
