Two tone paint

As my 68 is about to get paint sprayed by my good friend, and he called me about doing a two tone, but different than what I've mostly seen (using the body trim line).

The main body color is the Dodge Sunburst Orange, which looks like a dark burnt orange metallic to me. He's suggesting painting the window frame and door window frames a pewter (which is what the grille and FORD letters will be).

I've found one thread where a few folks have done this in a sharp contract, meaning mostly black against body color. But sine I haven't seen it more, makes me think there's a reason. Anyone try this out?

Thanks!

I've seen a couple done like that and with a hard top it looks good when the contrast color goes all the way around windshield to back...and definitely like it better than splitting the color on the body. I would say the sunburst orange and pewter would be great together... I also like the Argent color which is similar to pewter. With the sunburst orange I think it looks best with some type of contrast color (grille, rocker and flares...or maybe rally stripes). Good luck! I love the sunburst orange!

I have never liked when the windshield frame and door window frames are different from the main upper body color. It just does not look right to me. What color will the top be? Or will you be running a hard top? Soft top? If a full hard top or half cab I'd rather see the pewter on the whole top. But the wind frames should be main body color. Just my opinion but I would not do it. I do think the pewter would be a good contrast color - maybe use it for some faux Ranger stripes or the Special Decor stripe.

I like the idea, but to me the problem is the hood rises up above the window frames so the transition looks odd from the sides to me. Maybe paint the hood pewter too! :)

Thanks for all the feedback! I'm leaning (pretty hard) to body color. I kinda think the windshield, in particular, is a feature that needs to be seen. Since this is a Dairy Queen, well.... queen..., I'll mostly run without a top. I'll post some photos in the next week as I gather the "before I discovered it was a bond bitch" to the now. Here's what my friend sent me today - not vastly different than the "before bitch", except that there's metal instead of plastic.

There's a few mods on the 67, like the tail gate license plate "delete". Cleans it up nice I think! more to come.

Looks great! Is the trim color shown the Pewter you were talking about?

The plan was to replace as much sheet metal as needed, but not go into a full tub replacement. So new inner and outer fenders, one-piece cowl, windshield frame, A and B pillars, inner and outer rockers, doors, tailgate.... Those were really bad, filled with an amazing amount of bondo. Floor and bed seemed solid, at least from the underside, but didn't dig hard into those areas. I'll see how they hold up in a few years! As we got into it, we made a few aesthetic upgrades which I'll post shortly (it's at my buddy house), like the tailgate plate delete. Then shoot basically the same body color with some alternate color scheme. It's coming out nice, and hopefully all together in the next few weeks.

Here is my two tone. I like where the color splits on the trim line.
