I just ordered some warn axle shafts for my 44 tonight and I was wondering while I was replacing the axles if there were any extra parts that I would want to replace. Also I'm ordering the detriot electrac tomorrow and I was just going to make sure that my 4.88 THICK GEARS will work with this as long as I get the electrac for the stock gear ratio 3.09-3.73 or whatever it is. I am correct on this...I sure hope so.

If you are gonna upgrade to warn shafts you should probably upgrade to better u-joints like some CTM's. If you use the stock you joints they will be the weak point and when they break they will most likely deform the ears on the shafts which will make them worthless.

yes, christmas gifts for me ;D .... I was gunna get the ctms, but didnt want to spend the 400 bucks cuz I was gunna get the WAH. But I have now decided that the WAH and ctms will have to wait. I got some 760-x's for now, cuz I really need to order a centech in a couple of weeks since the only lights that work are the head lights... but will the thick gears work with the smaller carrier????

Defeats the purpose to upgrade to Warn Shafts without going with atleast the 760x u-joints. Better yet would be the CTMs. They are damn near bulletproof with CTMs.

If you break a standard u-joint with the Warn shafts and it takes out an ear Warn will NOT warranty the shafts. Get the CTMs and quit worrying about breaking the front end.....

On your gears/locker question, it's hard to know. Check with th company you are buying the locker from, if they can't tell you check with the gear manufacturer or a drivetrain shop. It really sucks if you get your stuff and it doesn't fit. good Luck!:)

yes the smaller detriot will work for you. Are you breaking the 260x ujionts now if your not i would not worry about upgrading the ujoint beyond the stock 760 right now it should hold up fine till you can upgrade to one of the stonger joints ox, ctm or even those redone spicers that guy is selling up north with the bushing instead of bearings.

Those would be the Bobby Long joints right? I heard they where pretty strong but the cost is almost up there with the CTM's, so I would personally spend the little extra and get the best.

I use the thick cut gears on a Detroit Trutrac made for the 3.50 ring gear so I can see no problem with what you are trying to do. Warn only garentees their shafts, if the u-joint breaks and takes out the warn shaft your out of luck. Which a broken u-joint will do. Just watch out using power with the wheels cranked full right or left.

They are actually about $100 a piece cheaper than the ctms but IIRC about 35% stronger than a stock 760

Edit: their more like $115 a piece cheaper (70 a piece) and 30% stronger than stock 760

I put in some Moser axles shafts and CTM joints. The shafts are huge compared to stock and the CTMs, well, theyre CTMS. I spent the money outright since on my last trip (Johnson Valley) a few weeks ago, one fellow Bronco snapped two axle shafts. Im not sure where he gets all the stock spares, but Ive seen this rig go through four shafts. Why he dont upgrade I dont know. Bottom line, spend the bucks and done with it.
