Used Tuffy Console

I managed to score a used Tuffy Stereo Console and it doesn't fit between the stock seatbelt bolts. Is there a lifted adapter plate or something I need to buy/build?

Can someone send me pics of their Tuffy Console and how it mounts to the body?

I also need a new lock for it. PO couldn't find the key to the lock. Fortunately it's locked OPEN instead of closed... :p ;D ;D

I haven't installed my Tuffy console from the Mass Buy, but from what I can see, the Bronco installation kit is some cheap-a$$ spacers to lift the back of the console an inch or so. You gotta be able to come up with something better that what they provided... I'm waiting 'till I get my roll cage with seat mounts so when I move the seat belts to the cage, I'll just be able to mount the console flat on the floor.

the install kit is basically two pieces of 1" x 1/8" square tubing and some longer bolts. If you don't want to buy one (they are ~$5), you can probably make one fairly easily.

thanks... I was thinking I'd get some 1"x1" or 1"x2" square tubing and rasing the whole thing up accordingly. I may weld it to the console and drill new holes where I can. This will allow me to go over the mounting bolts for the stock seatbelts. I have a set of TJ Seats that'll be here Wednesday. I may look at new seatbelts to go with them and maybe move the seatbelts underneath the seat and just mount it flat.

Just wondering how everyone else is doing it before I have to re-invent the wheel here.%) ;) ;D ;D

I just put mine in yesterday without the adapter kit. I used angled metal pieces and longer bolts. I have the front about 1/2" higher than the back to improve the angle for the cd player. A lot of cd players don't like an angle steeper than 60 degrees.

Can you take some pics of the setup and mail them to me? I'm not worried about the CD player and angle. It's staying in my dash and I'm going to install my key switch with fuel switch and starter button in the console. Make it a little more difficult to steal if you know what I mean.

I fiddled around with mine for a little while before I installed it (7 years ago) I wanted it a little bit higher to make a more suitable armrest, so I ended up using 2" spacers underneath to get it at a comfortable height. Stainless hardware holds it into place.

About the lock - you can order a new setup from Tuffy for just a few bucks, it'll drop right into place.

2" lift and a new lock. Sounds like a plan.

From what I was told, the lock is a simple barrel lock. All I have to do it remove the old one and put in a new one with the bracket that latches shut. Any local locksmith should have the lock for sale. We'll see.

You may want to lift your console higher or leave it lower. Just fool around with stacking stuff underneath it, and sit in the drivers seat, find where it's comfortable for you and that's where I'd put it. I'm pretty short (5'7") so a 2" spacer worked out perfect for me.

A locksmith would probably either have one, or be able to get one. The nice thing about ordering from Tuffy, is that if in the future, you get more of their stuff, you can give them your key code, and your new stuff will match when it arrives. Just a thought...

Well, here's my dliemma. I'm nearly 6'3". I have a proportunate body as far as my torso size is concerned. I'll be installing a set of Jeep TJ Seats in my Bronco next weekend as well as this console. Since those seats sit higher then stock, I know I'll want my console higher as well.

I'm not going to permanently mount the console until I get the seats in place.

Are Tuffy consoles for the 66-77 Bronco nothing more than a Tuffy CJ/TJ/etc console with a special mount?
