Vent Window Rubber exchange question?

Just ordered some used vent window frames with glass inserted and some new thick Vent window rubbers that fits into the door and that the vent sits on top of. What I want to know is, is it easy to install? Is it that all I have to do is just unscrew the screws from the old rubber bolted to the front outside door frame and just replace it with the new or do I have to take the whole top door frame out? Anyone ever done this? Also do I have to take the inside door panels off as well?

buck, I'm not totally clear on what you're doing, I believe the frame has to come out to replace the vent window. I beleive you need to take the door panel off, remove the screws on the angled vent frame (front of door) and the large screw that is just below the vent latch. The vent frame slides into the top of the lower window track, it may need to be loose and you'll need to pry out the top track a little to remove the vent frame. It's not that tough, it's just a real PITA. Sometimes you wish for a 3rd hand.
Good luck;D

Thanks. I was wondering if my door window needs to be taken out as well since it fits in the track as well? I need to get them in as soon as possible. Both of my vent window pivots broke and one window is just dangling on that hinge.

You need to get the wind wing out. The rubber is held in place with brass rivets. The rivets have to be put in with a punch and hammer so you need to have it on a firm surface. My guess is an auto glass shop would have a tool to flatten the rivits in place on the car.

Yes, take everything out of the door...its the easiest way. Its very easy to damage parts otherwise. Yes, drill out the rivets. You should be able to set the new rivets that come with the new rubbers using a mallet, a drift and an anvil or base of some sort. Waiting to put them back together... Actually I believe grinding the rivets was how I got the old ones out...I ground them almost to the frame and then used a small punch to pop them through.
