I know bigger the better but i dont have a money tree in my back yard.. 5500 lb? 8000lb? 10,000lb would be overkill wouldnt it? i do light wheeling, just want something to pull me out of the mud or sand..

Based on your avatar you will need the 10 ton winch. Just kidding, I have no clue!

I bought the Smitty Built XRC8000. It's 299.00 with a free winch cover and free shipping. Nice winch for what you described.

5000lbs. double the line back to not only save the whinch but doubles the pulling power. i have a 5000lbs on mine from 1982 and it has worked like a charm. never needed more. if your that stuck i dont think you should be pulling yourself foward, should be pulling out... :thats what she said:

I think the general rule of thumb is at least 1.5X the weight of whatever it's going on...

sparks nv,
i would say stick with a good brand and if its too small run a snatch block to double the pulling power of it 8000 should be plenty for ur eb

I was thinking 9,000 would be about perfect for an eb. But do you guys think a warn 12000lb is to much for the front of a bronco? -I have a line on one

A shovel and a hi-lift are a lot less dough. Winches are easy targets in the city. If you go that route put a few spot welds on your investment.

I just bought a 12,500lb with three year warranty, a cover, a snatch block, roller fairlead, and a pair of gloves for lest than $400 including shipping. I bought one last year for my Superduty and it works very well. I got it on Ebay, just search for "12,500 winch".

sparks nv,
i agree if u buy a winch weld the threads on at least one of the bolts. its a pain in the ass to pull off but you wont loose it in a parking lot.

I run a Ramsy 6000 on the rear and it always pulls me out of bad stuff. I rarely use the Warm 9.5 on the front. I think I may have wasted my money on it but time will tell.
